Awake at 3 am? A call for practice.

If you wake up in the middle of the night, it may be the only time you’ve got for yourself in the whole day. Don’t waste it.

A call for practice

Instead of winding yourself up by rumination, consider it a call for practice. Be it a reframing session, meditation, or prayer (whatever works for you).

Apply the constructive outlook [to reframe the causes of agitation] with effort, until restless thoughts and emotional discomforts are replaced with equanimity. Followed by a healthy sleep.

It is like when your body is in pain – you keep tossing and turning, and then finally find a comfortable position… The pain is no longer there.

An untrained mind will obviously keep escaping [your practice focus]. No problem. Be kind to yourself, and patiently keep returning your mind to the task.
