Lesson 7 of13
In Progress

Public accountability for motivation

Here a the “strings” to detach to learn how to walk.

Sourcing our motivation from public commitments subtly shifts us from doing what we want to doing what “the public” expects us to. Or rather what we think they expect.

Increased chances of failure

Since we deliver:
– what people publicly praise
– what we promised a while ago
– what we think people expect from us
Instead of concentrating on real value.

Leaving the causes of problems intact

We are not removing actual roadblocks for our natural motivation and progress.

We can clear limiting beliefs instead of finding workarounds for the problems they create. Let go of artificial support to learn how to walk.

Discover natural self-sustaining motivation. It comes with freedom.

Dependency on opinions

Compliance with expectations of other people adds cognitive distortions.

As if we did not have enough things to worry about. Now we:
– worry about fickle opinions
– self-guilt if criticized
– fear disapproval
– get jealous when comparing with others

Why waste valuable time and energy on unproductive and often explicitly destructive mental activity?

Leading by “example”

If the extra motivation you want comes from “inspiring others,” and otherwise you would not be motivated…

Ask yourself — is this the example you wish others to follow?

What would happen to your followers if you were transparent about it and posted:

“Ready to drop writing if you are not inspired.”

+ Last, but not least:
you are getting an additional layer of cognitive distortions with this agenda too. Watch out.

Sales agenda

If public transparency is just a sales agenda. It goes contrary to the spirit of transparency.

Will you trust someone who does it?

A house of cards?

If you already promised things online or intend to — no worries. It can still be a constructive thing. Now that you know what to keep an eye on.
